How It Works

Calculate winding machine settings including slub catcher, efficiency, and production.

The winding machine transfers yarn from ring bobbins to large packages (cones or cheeses) while removing yarn faults through yarn clearers. It is the bridge between spinning and downstream processes like warping, weaving, or knitting.

Slub catcher settings depend on yarn type — carded yarns require wider settings than combed. Electronic yarn clearers are set at 3cm × 3x diameter. Retained splice strength should be at least 80% of parent yarn strength for acceptable performance. Modern autoconers achieve 95%+ efficiency with automatic bobbin feeding and doffing. Winding production depends on machine speed, number of deliveries, efficiency, and yarn count.
