How It Works
Calculate the number of tiles required for a floor or wall, including grout gaps and waste allowance.
A tile calculator helps estimate the number of tiles required for flooring or wall tiling projects. Enter the room dimensions, tile size, grout gap, and waste percentage to get accurate material estimates.
Tiles are commonly sold by the box (typically 10 tiles per box), by individual tile, or by square foot. The calculator determines how many tiles are needed including the waste allowance for cutting around edges, obstacles, and breakage. A 10% waste factor is standard for rectangular layouts, but more complex patterns or diagonal layouts may require up to 15-20% waste.
Grout gaps between tiles affect the total coverage area. Standard gaps range from 1/16 inch for small mosaic tiles to 1/4 inch for large floor tiles.
