Roofing Calculator
Estimate roofing area, shingles, and materials needed
How It Works
Estimate roof area, material quantities (shingles), and costs based on roof dimensions and pitch.
A roofing calculator helps homeowners and contractors estimate the amount of roofing materials needed for a project. The total roof area depends not only on the building's footprint but also on the roof pitch (steepness) and overhang.
The pitch factor adjusts the flat area to account for the slope of the roof. A steeper roof has a larger surface area for the same footprint. For a 6/12 pitch (6 inches of rise per 12 inches of run), the pitch factor is approximately 1.118.
Roofing materials are typically measured in squares, where one square equals 100 square feet. Most shingle bundles cover about 33.3 square feet (3 bundles per square). The calculator includes a 10% waste factor for cutting, overlap, and mistakes.
