How It Works
A fraction represents a part of a whole, consisting of a numerator and a denominator. The numerator represents the number of equal parts, while the denominator is the total number of parts that make up the whole. The denominator of a fraction cannot be 0, as it would make the fraction undefined.

If a person were to eat 3 slices, the remaining fraction of the pie would therefore be 5/8.
Addition: Unlike adding and subtracting integers, fractions require a common denominator. One method for finding a common denominator involves multiplying the numerators and denominators by the product of the denominators. An alternative method is to use the least common multiple (LCM) of the denominators.
Multiplication: Simply multiply the numerators and denominators, then simplify the result if possible.
Division: Multiply the fraction in the numerator by the reciprocal of the fraction in the denominator. The reciprocal of a/b is b/a.
Simplification: Fraction solutions are commonly expressed in their simplified forms by dividing both numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor.
