Fabric GSM (Construction)
Calculate GSM from EPI, PPI, yarn count, and shrinkage
How It Works
Calculate fabric GSM using construction parameters: EPI, PPI, yarn count, and crimp percentage.
This GSM calculation method uses actual fabric construction parameters rather than cutting a physical sample. It is widely used in fabric design and development stages when only the specification is known and no physical fabric is available yet. The formula accounts for both warp and weft contributions separately, including crimp and shrinkage factors.
Crimp percentage represents the extra yarn length required to form interlacings in woven fabric. Higher crimp means more yarn is used, increasing GSM. Typical warp crimp ranges from 2-10% and weft crimp from 3-15%, depending on fabric structure. This calculator is essential for fabric designers, weaving mills, and textile students working on new fabric developments.
