Cover Factor

Calculate warp, weft, and total fabric cover factor

How It Works

Calculate warp cover factor, weft cover factor, and total cover factor for woven fabrics.

Cover Factor (CF) is a critical fabric construction parameter that measures the percentage of fabric surface area covered by warp and weft yarns. It influences fabric density, porosity, weight, and durability. Higher cover factor indicates denser, more tightly woven fabric.

Cover factor affects fabric properties including air permeability, water resistance, and fabric hand feel. In weaving, it helps determine the appropriate yarn count and thread density for achieving desired fabric characteristics. For plain weaves, CF values typically range from 10-30. Twill and satin weaves can achieve higher CF due to fewer intersections. The adjusted formula for twill/satin accounts for yarn flattening at intersections.
